Catherine Ruffle has been a building designer with Lateral Building Design since 2017. Her career as a building designer began in 2013 but she has been a creative her whole life with a love of arts and craft and other creative interests.
Her love of residential spatial planning is the reason why she entered the design industry. Her favourite part of designing is the sketch plan stage or as she dubs it, ‘the Tetris’ of her projects. She loves the collaboration with clients and working out the perfect layout to suit their needs all while working within the boundaries of council and building regulations and the budget.
While that may be Catherine’s favourite part of designing, her favourite part of the job is the relationships she’s formed. She loves the connection she makes with her clients and helping them achieve their design goals as well as the professional relationships she has with LBD’s consultants – soil testers, engineers and builders who she says she has learnt so much from.
Her Favourite Project
When it comes to choosing her favourite project, she likens it to asking someone to decide who’s their favourite child! But there are a few highlights that hold a special place in her heart. There’s a small second storey renovation in Croydon, a knock down/rebuild in Mt Evelyn that is currently under construction, a new home in Mitcham and a large renovation in Heathmont as well as some smaller projects which she is incredibly proud of. Overall, her favourite category when it comes to building design is new homes.
Away from the Office
When Catherine’s not designing, you’ll find her on the dancefloor or at the park with her son. She also enjoys watching movies with her husband and doing anything creative including photography.
Catherine also has a love of movie quotes and is constantly referencing movies. She loves Disney, Christmas, narrating life in song and just spending time with family and friends.
